| On March 6, 2009, CMS Mercedes Enrique, President/CEO was contacted by the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) and informed that CMS has been selected as the recipient of the Robert B. Flowers Small Business Award for eminent contributions to SAME by a SAME Small Business Sustaining Member (SM).
CMS is credited by SAME as being, "a consistent and growing contributor to SAME during the past five years....Today CMS employees hold leadership positions and are involved at all SAME levels."
CMS was eligible for this award as a company that has at least one Post Sustaining Membership in the past three years and is a Small Business in at least one NAICS category. CMS also complied with the nomination criteria including: the extent to which the company appoints individuals to SM representative positions for each Post affiliation; extent to which company SM representatives take on leadership positions at the Post level, including Board of Direction and committees; extent to which the company supports K-12, College Outreach and community service activities; extent to which the company participates in Small Business programs sponsored by The Society or public agencies; extent to which the company exhibits and sponsors at SAME region and national conferences; and the extent to which the company supported Young Member participation in Society activities and mentoring programs.
Since entering the federal government construction market in 2004, CMS has been involved in national Councils and Post boards, and the company continues to be a strong SM in the Kittyhawk, Kentuckiana, San Diego, and Honolulu Posts. CMS also regularly participates, volunteers, and exhibits at Post SAME conferences. Also noteworthy, CMS Young Members routinely demonstrate a commitment by their involvement in Post and national activities, encouraging SAME membership among young engineers.
CMS is involved in a number of youth outreach programs, as is evident by the company's financial contribution and participation in local elementary and middle school activities. CMS employees are also committed to local community K-12 science and engineering educational activities, offering internships to college students in the engineering, construction management, and finance fields. CMS is also proud of their employee involvement in other community service programs such as the Toys for Tots holiday drive, Habitat for Humanity, and local firefighter activities.
